Reconstruction of north stand of the "Rajko Mitić" stadium

15. 10. 2017

The decision on reconstruction of the Rajko Mitić Stadium, previously known as Red Star Stadium or Marakana was made 54 years after the year of its construction.

The conceptual design prepared by the Institute of Transportation CIP includes the access from Ljutice Bogdana Street and the plateau behind the north stand. Planned landscaping of the area covering about 2,300 m2 may be done in two phases.

The design envisages formation and emphasis of pedestrian access to stands as well as protection of embankment supporting the stadium structure and perimeter structures. There is an idea to assign to auxiliary fields at the lowest level the sports hall function. At the same time safer pedestrian promenade of better quality will be constructed as the shortest pedestrian connection from Dedinje to Voždovac i.e. from Ljutice Bogdana Street to Oslobođenja Boulevard offering a magnificent view of the Vračar plateau.

Flower boxes embodying the club symbols (recognisable colours of Red Star, pines and firs, and other Club's characteristics) will be placed along both sides of wide stairway.

Our biggest stadium with its new appearance and additional future functionality may become another symbol of our capital to the joy of all Belgraders particularly the team's supporters and the group of ardent fans Red Star within the team of CIP designers.
